We spoke with trainer Steve Klesaris after the breeze. Steve said, "He worked well. I gave him a little maintenance work. He's sitting on a race. We're looking for a spot to run him."
Steve will breeze El Orejon on a 7-day breeze schedule preparing him for him next race.
El Orejon ran a strong 2nd in Sunday's race at Gulfstream Park. El Orejon pressed the issue early three-wide, chased the dueling leaders through the turn while still in the three-path, engaged Gus Swayze for the second spot with less than a furlong to run, wore that rival down while slowly carving into the winner's advantage.
We spoke with jockey Samy Camacho after the race and Samy said, "He ran a huge race today. He's a nice horse."
We spoke with trainer Steve Klesaris after the race and Steve said, "He ran huge. The winner got the rail trip and we had to swing wide and go around the #3. If we were in the inside it would have been closer. I don't know if we would have won but it would have been closer."
We spoke with Hibiscus Stables CEO Mike Oliveto after the race and Mike said, "I liked this horse a great deal from the time we claimed him. He ran to the potential I believed he had. He's another nice young horse for our claiming program."
El Orejon earned $8,490 for Sunday's race at Gulfstream Park.
Steve will see how El Orejon comes out of the race and point him accordingly, most likely to the same race next time.
