Gran Saman is entered to run in Saturday’s 8th race at Gulfstream Park which is an Allowance N1X going 5 furlongs on the turf for 4-year-olds and up which have never won $10,000 once other than Maiden, Claiming, Starter, or State-bred Allowance, or have never won two races, or claiming price of $25,000. He drew post position 11 and jockey Edgard Zayas is named to ride. Zayas currently has 36 wins and a 17% winning percentage at the meet.
Gran Saman is currently 12-1 in the Daily Racing Form morning line.
The purse for this race is $47,000.
First race post time is 12:05 PM and Gran Saman's race is Race 8 which is scheduled to go off at 3:46 PM.
Gran Saman crushed a very competitive field of open claimers at Gulfstream Park on Wednesday stalking a very slow pace yet still having the talent to rally past the front runners and win by daylight drawing away. Breaking from the 2 post Gran Saman stalked the three-ply duel inside, lacked room in upper stretch, got clear three wide nearing the eighth pole and drove clear.
We spoke with trainer Steve Klesaris after the race. Steve said, “It’s races like this one that we claimed this horse back. We’ve had him in the past and we knew what he was capable of. Now that we have him back on his preferred course we expect to have a lot of fun with him.”
We also spoke with Hibiscus Stables CEO Mike Oliveto after the race. Mike said, “The most impressive part of this win is the fractions he closed into. 23 and 45.2 is a snail’s pace over this course. He put them away like the veteran that he is.”
Gran Saman earned $13,800 for Wednesday’s victory.
Steve will see how Gran Saman comes out of the race and we’ll point him accordingly.
