Gran Saman scored a sharp gate-to-wire victory over a field of 8 open claimers at Gulfstream Park on Thursday. Gran Saman broke on top and angled to the rail position, vied for the lead with Runforthewoods, edged away from that rival still unasked in the turn, came under a ride in upper stretch with rivals racing in close pursuit, under strong right handed drive, dug in gamely with ears pinned back and held determinedly.

We spoke with trainer Steve Klesaris after the race. Steve said, “He looked really good today. He’s a very nice horse. I’m considering trying him in an Allowance race next out.”

We also spoke with Hibiscus Stables CEO Mike Oliveto after the race. Mike said, “This is his third win for us since we claimed him. Once we moved him to 5 furlong son the turf he’s become a totally different horse. I can’t be more pleased. This is a very exciting win and a great deal of fun for the partners.”

Gran Saman earned $10,800 for Thursday’s win.

Steve will see how Gran Saman comes out of the race and we’ll point him accordingly.

Gran Saman is entered to run in Thursday’s 5th race at Gulfstream Park which is a $10,000 Claiming race going 5 furlongs on the turf for 3-year-olds and up. He drew post position 5 and jockey Edgard Zayas is named to ride. Zayas is currently ranked 8th in the Gulfstream Park jockey standings with 3 wins and a 10% winning percentage.

Gran Saman is currently 5-1 in the Daily Racing Form morning line. He’s the DRF Consensus selection to win the race. One DRF handicapper selects him to win the race and two DRF handicappers select him as their second choice in the race.

The purse for this race is $22,000.

First race post time is 2:15 PM and Gran Saman's race is Race 5 which is scheduled to go off at 4:23 PM. As always there will be a Hibiscus table in the clubhouse restaurant. Everyone is invited to join our partners at Gulfstream Park for a fun day of racing.
