International Diva (IRE) breezed on Thursday working 4 furlongs in 49.60 over the Santa Anita dirt training track. That work was 7th best out of 19 at the distance.
We spoke with trainer Phil D’Amato after the breeze. Phil said, “She gave us a solid work today. It was her best yet. Maybe the race perked her up a bit.”
Phil will train International Diva (IRE) up to her next race which we expect to be a Maiden $75,000 Claiming race going 1 mile on the turf at Santa Anita.
International Diva (IRE) ran to a very good third place finish at Santa Anita on Sunday following a loose on the lead runner and digging in gamely in the lane. Breaking from 2-post International Diva (IRE) chased inside, came out into the stretch and was edged for the show but was moved up to third in the final placings after a disqualification.
We spoke with trainer Phil D’Amato after the race and Phil said,”With all she’s been through in her life she just showed us she’s a pretty tough filly.”
We also spoke with Hibiscus Stables CEO Mike Oliveto after the race. Mike said, “It’s a lot to ask a first-time starter to load into the gate as the second horse, face a full field of mostly experienced horses, go around two turns, and run well. Our filly did all of those things today and she really showed us something. This was a really exciting race and the partners had a wonderful time. We can’t wait to see what this filly has next for us.”
International Diva (IRE) earned $3,960 for Sunday’s third place finish.
Phil will see how International Diva (IRE) comes out of the race and he’ll point her accordingly.
