International Diva (IRE) ran a very strong race in her first start on the synthetic finishing second, 5 lengths ahead of the next horse, and posting a career high Beyer Speed Figure of 66. International Diva (IRE), breaking from the 6 post, settled mid pack to the second turn, raced three wide to the stretch, then steadily closed the gap while easily second best.
We spoke with trainer Blaine Wright after the race and Blaine said, “This one is totally on me. The filly hadn’t been finishing in her last couple of races and I gave JJ the instructions to keep her anchored and to not move until late in the race. Unfortunately he followed my instructions to the letter and it let the winner get away uncontested. Once the race unfolded I wish I had just let him go without any directions. We should have won the race.”
We also spoke with Hibiscus Stables CEO Mike Oliveto after the race. Mike said, “She ran a winning race but we just allowed the winner to get away on the front end walking the dog. She trains well on the synthetic and she showed it by posting a career high Beyer Speed Figure. We’ll collect the second place money and move on.”
International Diva (IRE) earned $2,080 for Thursday’s second place finish.
Blaine will see how International Diva (IRE) comes out of the race and he’ll point her accordingly.
International Diva (IRE) is entered to run in Thursday’s 5th race at Golden Gate Fields which is a $4,000 Claiming N2L race for fillies and mares 3-year-olds and up which have never won two races going 1 mile. She drew post position 6 and jockey JJ Hernandez is named to ride. Hernandez is currently ranked 7th the Golden Gate Fields jockey standings with 3 wins and a 15% winning percentage.
International Diva (IRE) is currently the 2-1 Daily Racing Form morning line favorite in the race. She’s the DRF Consensus selection to win the race. All three DRF handicappers select her to win the race.
The purse for this race is $10,400.
