Awsum Roar again ran a disappointing third at Gulfstream Park on Wednesday. Breaking from post 3 Awsum Roar vied for the lead in the turn, shook free to a slim advantage, then was out-finished in the final sixteenth.
We spoke with trainer Steve Klesaris after the race and Steve said, “She was forced to chase some very fast fractions coming off the layoff. She looked like she was doing it in hand but she just flattened out. She needed the race.”
We also spoke with Hibiscus Stables CEO Mike Oliveto after the race. Mike said, “She went off 4-5 so everyone expected her to roll but she clearly needed the race. We’ll bring her right back and see if we can get her to improve in the next start.”
Awsum Roar earned $2,530 for Wednesday’s third place finish.
